ODLR Gets Innovative

For those who might not know, my day job while not daydreaming about a life more fashionable is in advertising strategy. Which explains one of the reasons I get excited about fashion campaigns like this and this. I think the ad industry shares many similarities with the fashion industry... it is fast-paced, creative, evolving and is communicating "something".

I got well over excited when I read about the delectable house of Oscar De La Renta crowd-sourcing the brainstorming stage for their next resort collection (read more here). For those who love Pinterest, this campaign is for you. "The Board" is ODLRs space where fans can get involved with the brand in a way that has never been made possible on a mass scale before - they can contribute to the fabulous fashion process by sharing a photo or video they personally believe to be inspiring. As the process evolves; there will be more specific requirements, such as colour or texture. But for now, if you are inspired - you can share it with Oscar de la Renta and influence them.

From a communications and fan point of view I love this for many many reasons - builds a community and is organically shareable; creates a new owned media channel; offers personalisation; creates a collective brand ownership and gives something back to fans - like me!
